Founded in 2007, SCALLTA MEDIA is an independent publishing initiative
located in Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, that has been created to discover, promote, publish, record
and release original creative work. Our primary interest is in work created by musicians, songwriters,
fiction writers, poets, dramatists, memoirists who live in Co. Wexford, or whose works treats of, or are
informed by, the county. It is our intention to publish work in such traditional media as book and CD formats,
and also in digital formats—the media of the future.
At SCALLTA MEDIA, we are concerned with
finding artistic projects to publish, record, and promote that exhibit superior artistic qualities
and which are innovative in their respective fields. To ensure quality, each piece of work considered
for publication or recording, whether solicited or unsolicited, is sent to two peer reviewers for comment
and recommendation. In addition to original work, SCALLTA MEDIA is committed to bringing back
into print—in book, CD, and digital formats—work that has gone out of print/circulation. Although
our primary mission involves working with Co. Wexford artists, we also have an interest in
publishing/recording works by other regional, national, and international artists.
For details on submitting a publishing/recording project for consideration to SCALLTA MEDIA,
please visit our submissions area.
And as well as publishing material, at SCALLTA MEDIA we are also interested and enthusiastic about
making quality material by other publishers available on our website. If you have a book or CD sitting in the attic,
or you feel your work is not getting its fair share of exposure, and you would like to make it available to the world,
please contact us.
In February 2008, Scallta Media acquired the renowned ULSTERSONGS catalogue
from John Moulden. A separate listing of this splendid catalogue is now available here.
Like Ulstersongs, Scallta Media also wish to produce and market song books and recordings, to seek out and market books and recordings which
support traditional aims, and to perform and encourage the performance of songs.

PAINTING THE VESTIBULE by Betty Thompson.
In November 2009, Scallta Media launched their first collection of poetry. The collection by Betty Thompson has garnered much praise:
“Betty Thompson’s accomplished poetry exhibits a keen sense of the visual - here is a meditative awareness of shades of meaning as
they are bodied forth in images of darkness, light, and her painterly palette of colours. Inspired by visual art, her aptly
phrased poems create their own suggestive still-life tableaux: a sandbar ‘long and plump like a new grave’; Eleanor Roosevelt finding
solace in a circle of holly bushes; the shine of a saucepan where cut lemons are simmering to soothe a friend’s cold.”
KATIE DONOVAN
“In Betty Thompson’s cool and luminous poems the poetic line and the line of life are impressively united. Her work is marked by a
fine precision of language and a warm regard for our many-sided world. An impressive first collection.”
EAMONN WALL
“A poet with an acute awareness of the musical possibilities of language.”
KEVIN HIGGINS
On general release from November 13th, 2009.
